About Us
A unique coalition of New York state stakeholders, has conceptualized and implemented a sustainable teacher residency program — the Classroom Academy — designed by practitioners to advance effective teaching, student learning, and financial sustainability through a pioneering approach that can be a model for other districts, regions, and states.
Originally launched with a programmatic grant (Great Public Schools) from the National Education Association, Classroom Academy is dedicated to the principles of accomplished teaching established by the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards. It tightly aligns high quality graduate level college academic preparation with two-year classroom residencies overseen by expert lead teachers. The Classroom Academy is unique in this teacher led approach-with a comprehensive mix of stakeholders, National Board principles, strong assessment and evaluation components, and a groundbreaking incorporation of “shared services” model financing that solves a persistent challenge for residency programs across the nation: financial sustainability.
